About
My varied education and experience is unified by a central desire to improve health and humanity...and I'm still figuring out how to do this with greater impact and effectiveness.
To this end, I'm currently a Senior ML Engineer at the Francis Crick Institute, where I work with scientists to apply AI & research software engineering to accelerate scientific discovery. While most of my work relates to imaging, my role inherently involves working across a range of biological problems and therefore ML solutions.
Prior to this, I was a Research Fellow at University College London, working on methods for disease progression modelling and applying this to clinical trial data. My research was focused on using machine learning to better understand the progression of neurodegenerative diseases, with the ultimate goal of improving clinical trial design and patient outcomes.
I completed my PhD in Computer Science at the University of Manchester, focusing on evolutionary ML, treating clustering as a multi-objective optimisation problem. A highlight of my work was developing HAWKS, an approach for evolving datasets themselves with parameterised difficulty to stress-test and compare clustering algorithms.
